The Coalition’s Education Committee provides the leadership
in developing the program for each year's annual meeting
by identifying, inviting, and securing a speaker on a timely
topic of interest. In recent years, we have hosted
staff from Indiana's Family and Social Services Administration
to address programs and funding, key legislators to share
insights on policy challenges, and individuals from around
the country that have conducted research on aspects of issues
that concern us, like the working poor.
The McCulloch
award is the highest and most prestigious recogniztion given
by ICHS. It pays tribute to a person whose advocacy
or service has made lasting contributions to improve the
lives of people in Indiana. Named in memory of Rev.
Oscar McCulloch, who championed many system-chaning social
reforms in Indiana in the late 19th century, the award was
first preseted by the Indiana Council on Social Concerns
(ISCS) in 1989. ICHS, carrying on the ICSC tradition,
resumed presentint the award in 1996.
