New Partnership with Indiana Institute for Working Families

In the late 1990s and through 2003, ICHS collaborated with “Partners for Hoosier Communities” to host a series of fall education forums during throughout the state of Indiana.  “Partners” – which was a statewide coalition of social service, workforce, and economic development agencies working together to address issues of jobs, wages, and poverty – has since merged with the Indiana Network for Economic Fairness, a project of the Indiana Coalition on Housing and Homeless Issues, to form the Indiana Institute for Working Families.

The Institute’s overarching goal is to identify and advocate for public policies that strengthen the capacity of low-wage workers and their families to achieve and maintain self-sufficiency.  Its activities involve public policy research, analysis, advocacy, and education and one goal is to strengthen statewide and community partnerships through the aforementioned public policy work.

ICHS and the Indiana Institute for Working Families will continue to collaborate on hosting regional fall forums that build bridges among researchers, advocates, providers, and constituents through the dissemination of practical information on current labor market trends, Census Bureau data, and promising approaches to assisting low-income working families achieve and maintain self-sufficiency.  By partnering with the Institute, ICHS educates its members around the state about research findings and implications for legislation that involves the delivery and funding of social services.
